Gift cards

Gift cards are an underrated revenue driver and at the same time an accounting challenge. Omneya makes selling them simple and keeps the books clean.

Gift cards that reflect your brand

You sell gift cards for any amount you like (€5 to €1,000) or with fixed denominations (€25, €50, €100, €200). For each campaign you design the card in the built-in editor: background, logo, typeface, colour. Different occasions get different designs: Christmas, birthday, wedding, generic gift card. Templates save time, adjustments take minutes.

Digital or printed

At checkout the buyer chooses whether the card should reach the recipient digitally by email (straight away or on a date they pick) or whether they want to download it as a PDF and print it out or hand it over themselves. Digital cards can carry a personal message. Printed ones come with folding instructions and a proper layout. Both routes produce the same gift card code.

Remaining balance and multiple redemptions

Omneya treats gift cards like a wallet: a €50 card is not "used up" by a €30 purchase, €20 stay on it as a remaining balance. The buyer redeems the rest on the next order. For every card you see the full redemption history: who, when, how much, in which order. Minimum redemption amounts and a maximum number of redemptions are configurable.

PIN protection and one-time activation

Every card carries a unique code and, if you want, a PIN. For higher values PIN protection is worth it, because it catches theft during handover. Activation happens at the moment of purchase, before that the code is worthless. That also lets you put physical gift cards on display in your store and activate them at the till.

Combining with other campaigns

Gift cards can be combined with discount codes, loyalty points and sale campaigns. Per card you decide whether it counts purely as a means of payment (always combinable) or as a campaign (not combinable). The default is "means of payment", which is also the correct status under commercial law. The recipient is treated as if they were paying cash, without the "not valid in combination with other offers" frustration.

Accounting as a liability

Sold and unredeemed gift cards are liabilities on your balance sheet: not revenue, but money you still owe the customer. Omneya books the sale as a liability and only records revenue when the card is redeemed, at the tax rate of the product bought. Cards that pass their expiry date are released to income. Your tax adviser gets a clean report, you do not have to book anything by hand.

Reporting

Per campaign you see the value sold, the value redeemed, the outstanding liability and the expiry rate. That tells you which designs work, whether gift cards genuinely bring in new customers (the recipient buying something later) and whether marketing campaigns that give cards away earn back their cost.
